This eternal question occupies us all, to a lesser or greater degree. So we thought we’d approach it by replacing the OR with the logical operator XOR…
The XOR operator is known as “exclusive or” (eXclusive OR). When XOR sits between two options — say, “cook” XOR “order in” — it rules out the case where both hold at once, which plain OR allows. In other words, the outcome of the decision is that either “I’ll cook” or “I’ll order in”, and both can’t be true together.
So, between TO DO and NOT TO DO, one of the two wins — usually the one we already know deep down we will, or won’t, actually do.
The criteria each of us uses to decide are different, and usually unique. We suggest you use this notebook to write down the TO DOs and NOT TO DOs of your everyday — and maybe that process will help you make the right decisions!
